Online: The Next Big Thing |
We are living an era when companies are heading towards trillion-dollar valuation and that too at an amazing pace. The list of unicorns is getting bigger and bigger and the majority of them are digital companies in the mission of simplification. Kylie Jenner is the perfect example of becoming a billionaire, in fact, the youngest self-made billionaire in the Forbes list of billionaires.
With a valuation of over 900 million, currently she is the sole owner of the company with just 16 employees. Interestingly, she gives a 10% commission to her mother, who is her manager.
So, how she managed to do it, that too at such an age? Before venturing into the business space, she was already a celebrity with a huge fan base, thanks to the reality show ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’. She is a perfect example of doing something you are passionate about and turning that into a business opportunity. Her struggle to find a perfect lip color match ignited the passion to build a company with a wide range of lip line collection. She invested $250,000 to start her own lip line collection in association with Seed Beauty to manufacture beauty products.
The game wasn’t in manufacturing, but leveraging the power popularity through online marketing and she did it perfectly. Her first line of collections was sold within an hour. Visualizing the potential to scale, her mother advised her to outsource selling to Shopify and it triggered.
Another biz that is making waves is the Canva—an online platform that simplified design creation. Melanie Perkins, co-founder, and CEO of Canva, now have celebrities like Owen Wilson as investors and some of the top investors like Bill Tai. She aims was to simplify designing experience and make it accessible to everyone at very reasonable rates. The revenue model is simple allowing free access to design templates and a $12 per month subscription for those interested in better designs.
The interface is simple with several easy to use tools to create brilliant designs. In simple words, anyone can be a graphic designer with Canva. In just six years since inception in 2103, the company commands the valuation of over $2.5 billion and all this because she wanted to simplify the designing experience.
Online learning is another big thing happening right now. Although, the model is a bit complex due to the lack of absence of repeat customers, word of mouth does wonder in terms of attracting fresh learners. I have done several online courses to add value to my skill set and most of them were based on recommendation. Recently, I did a Business Blueprint course offered by Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi. I must say that this format is going to be very big in times to come and the main reasons are flexibility, freedom, and of course cost-effectiveness. The best thing about these value addition courses is that you get the most advanced learning. They launched the course in January 2019 and literally skyrocketed within days and the only reason is the value users are getting.
We are living in a digital era and digital interface will increase day-by-day. Whatever is your need, the answer will come online. So, be an avid observer and find problems you could solve and make it available online. You will be in the driving seat of your destiny.
