Be Active on Social Media During Lockdown to Build Your Base |
I am a very enthusiastic social media user as I see immense benefits in digital socialization. But, it is now much more than just engaging enjoyment. I have realized that it is now a necessity to remain socially active. I love creative Hollywood fiction of global Armageddon type of mass annihilation movies and how the human spirit overcomes challenges. But, I never ever imagined that we will see something like that in real life when a virus will force humans to stay indoors.
It is real but unfortunate that we have to self-quarantine to avoid infection from friends and relatives. Forget having our normal chilling lifestyle, we cannot have a normal face-to-face conversation. We are more virtual than real. You might hate social media but can’t deny the fact that it is the only way to remain connected with near and dear ones in the time of crisis.
When we all are following social-distancing norms, we need more positive messages to keep fighting spirit ignited. You might not have interacted with your school or college friends since long, the lockdown has given you the opportunity to interact with them and regain the charm of unconditional relationship. Your social media platform is the best possible way to keep everyone informed about your well-being and know about everyone you care for. Irrespective of your profession, social media gives you an option to air your view and it acts like wonder in managing stress and anxiety. Just be careful about your content.
If you are a dentist, start giving helpful advice on social media about dental hygiene. If you are a dermatologist start talking about the importance of skincare and ways to do it at home. If you are a construction worker then start talking about the work you have already done and also post pictures. Whatever you are doing put it on social media. Don’t bother to ways to monetize it, just start sharing your experience and let your followers count rise. Show some patience, your social media activity is going to help you in the long run.
Frankly speaking, the world is not going to be the same after the pandemic. Every aspect of life and business will see a series of disruption and baseline realignment will take time. Normalcy is bound to happen, but it will be new normal with several new variables. So, it is better to use the time diligently and prepare yourself for the paradigm shift.
It is a fact that social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have opened Pandora’s Box of opportunities for people to explore a new horizon. Even people with normal skills can have millions of followers like celebrities. We have Tik Tok celebrities like Charlie Damilo who earns in millions from brands and YouTubers like Lilly Singh who has become a superstar and now has her show.
But, one has to remember that you need to just put content and not think about likes. This advice came from Gary Vee, who is a social media expert and has his own media agency. I remember his lecture on the importance of social media and how he took his dad's wine business from a million dollars to multiple millions of dollars using social media.
So, start using social media and use it for anything you are passionate about. Don’t waste time overthinking how you will benefit from your activity. Just forget about ‘likes’ and publish whatever you think is going to help people like you.
Gary Vee was planning to start his own business with his brother and he was not sure what to do. In that moment of confusion, ESPN contacted him because he had more twitter followers than all of the Disney combined. But, Gary was so busy that he missed the mail, and when he finally checked he saw that they tried to contact him again with an of $5000 for consultation. That is when he realized he had a profitable consultation business in the making and then he started Vayner Media with his brother.
So, he was just putting content out there and he gained followers slowly, without any plan of building a business around that idea. You need to have faith in the process and be there in action. The universe will help you out but that does not mean you should stop doing what you do best. Just keep in mind, if you are working passionately, the universe will conspire to help you achieve greatness. Be there and active, you will see things happening automatically.
